Washington, D.C. police have closed a sexual assault investigation into the husband of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer.
The investigation was dropped after federal prosecutors found no indication of a crime. Shawn DeRemer had been accused of sexually assaulting at least two female US Labor Department staffers.
The allegations, which were first reported by the New York Times, add to existing controversies surrounding the labor secretary, who is also facing a misconduct investigation from the Labor Department's inspector general. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Sexual Assault Unit reviewed evidence with the US Attorney's Office before the case was closed.
