Børge Brende has resigned as president and CEO of the World Economic Forum following an independent investigation into his past connections with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The investigation found "no additional concerns" beyond what had been previously disclosed. Brende stated that he believed it was the right time for the Forum to continue its work without distractions.
The WEF announced in early February that it was investigating Brende over his friendship with Epstein, which included attending business dinners and exchanging messages. Brende had previously denied knowing Epstein well but admitted to their acquaintance after a document release, asserting he was unaware of Epstein's criminal activities.
André Hoffman and Larry Fink, co-chairmen of the WEF's board of trustees, confirmed the investigation's completion and named Alois Zwinggi as interim president and CEO.
